Coming Soon

popcornPopcorn and the movies go together like peanut butter and jelly.  You get the movie theater bucket of warm buttered popcorn and a cold drink in your hands and your ready to sick back and enjoy the movie.  But then you have to sit through endless “Coming Attractions”.  At this time of year, only four weeks before Christmas, all the holiday season movie previews are out and you will have to sit through them to see your movie.

This is the season of coming attractions, the Advent Season.  We look forward to all the Christmas music, the bright decorations, party after party, family get togethers and of course, the celebration of Jesus’ birthday.

But there is something else we should be looking forward to.  We should be looking forward to the day when Jesus is coming again.  Jesus told His disciples that He would return but He said in Matthew 24:36, “…no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” when that would be.  So if we don’t know when Jesus will return, it’s kinda like a movie preview.  They are always “Coming soon to a theater near you”.  They don’t tell us when, we have to be watching, waiting and be ready to get our tickets.

That’s exactly what Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 24:44 “… be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.”  So how can we be ready?  Well we need to stay in His Word daily,  seek him fervently in prayer, truly love one another, Care for sick, feed the hungry and help the poor.  If we do these things, we’ll be ready when He comes.
